Theories About Love

There are various theories about love, including those by Wilson, Pismenny, and others. Most do not use explicitly reductionistic language and often do not make conceptual connections between different aspects of love. This makes identifying a single theory about love difficult. Here are some of them: * Aristotle’s definition of love, by St. Thomas Aquinas. Aristotle defined the meaning of the word as “the desire to do good for another.”

* The Greeks defined love as “Agape,” or unconditional love. Agape love never ends because of the actions of the other person. It’s in everything and in the nature of all things. Parents love their children with agape love, even if it doesn’t end in marriage. It is the type of love most parents experience. In the United States, we often use this term to describe romantic relationships. The best examples of this type of love are father-son relationships.

* Emotional love. While love is a human emotion, it can also be defined as an evaluative-cummotivational or dispositional response. For example, a person who is overwhelmingly motivated by egoistic desires will be more likely to engage in erotic love. This type of love may be characterized by intense physical intimacy, but can be prone to game-playing and emotional distance. It is also rare to last and is therefore considered to be a low-commitment form of love.

The third type of love is storge love. While erotic love is focused on physical attraction and intimate sexuality, it is also characterized by emotional distance and game-playing. People who pursue erotic love are unlikely to commit, and are more likely to break up with a partner at any point. Moreover, erotic lovers usually do not feel committed and are comfortable ending a relationship. Meanwhile, storge love is generally considered a higher form of love. The emphasis is on similar interests and open affection, rather than on physical attractiveness. The people in storge love are typically trusting, kind, and independent.

Historically, love has been viewed as a complex of feelings and perceptions. Specifically, it is defined as the process of deep affection between two people. Although it is a universal human emotion, it should be understood as an enacted emotion. However, a person can be passionate in many ways and experience several types of love.
